My name is Nick Warren and I am
entering my senior year at ASU. I currently live right on the border of Tempe
and Scottsdale, where I have lived for just over a year after moving from my
hometown Riverton, Wyoming. I am currently majoring in Urban and Metropolitan
Studies and I hope to eventually pursue a career in Urban or Regional Planning.
At the moment, I am working on the
maintenance crew at ASU Karsten Golf Course, interning for Maricopa County’s
Air Quality Department, and taking classes at ASU. A few of my hobbies consist
of spending time with friends, spending time outdoors, and playing the guitar.
As stated earlier, I am interning
for Maricopa County’s Air Quality Department and my official intern title is
Asbestos Unit Intern. What I primarily want to get out of this internship is a
closer look at the inner and outer workings of a government agency. I feel that
having more insight into how government works and actually having a hands on
experience will be an important step in my career development. Secondly, I
would like to make a good impression at this internship, as I know it would be
a very useful reference on a job resume if nothing else. Finally, I would like
to further my knowledge about asbestos and then use that knowledge to spread
awareness. Before accepting this internship, I had a very basic understanding
of what asbestos is and the dangers surrounding the group of minerals. However,
after my first day I already have a much better understanding of asbestos and
what the Air Quality Department is attempting to do in order to minimize its
hazardous effect on humans.
Wow! Wyoming to Arizona must have been quite a transition! I hope you will talk a little bit more about your decision to come here in one of your free posts. I'm also interested to hear more about the dangers of asbestos. You're off to a great start!
ReplyDeleteHey Nick,
ReplyDeleteSounds like you're on the right track in life and that you know specifically what you want to do professionally. I can only imagine how beneficial it is to intern for Maricopa County’s Air Quality Department. That must be a solid foot in the door. I did my internship in Washington D.C. and now see the benefits of working for local governments and municipalities. Although our internships are different be both hope(d) for insight into how government works and actually having a hands on experience. I can honestly say that was achieved by the end of my time in the U.S. House. I look forward to hearing more about your internship.
Hi Nick,
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to know more about Asbestos. I'm looking forward in reading more of your comments and what you are learning in this internship program. This will give you also a great opportunity to know more about Maricopa County's government agency. I've always felt that there most likely is asbestos in more buildings than people realize. I don't know much about it other than it can be dangers and cause huge health concerns. Pollution is and should be a major concern for all of us. I am looking forward to learning more about this ~ thank you.
