My name is Nick Warren and I am
entering my senior year at ASU. I currently live right on the border of Tempe
and Scottsdale, where I have lived for just over a year after moving from my
hometown Riverton, Wyoming. I am currently majoring in Urban and Metropolitan
Studies and I hope to eventually pursue a career in Urban or Regional Planning.
At the moment, I am working on the
maintenance crew at ASU Karsten Golf Course, interning for Maricopa County’s
Air Quality Department, and taking classes at ASU. A few of my hobbies consist
of spending time with friends, spending time outdoors, and playing the guitar.
As stated earlier, I am interning
for Maricopa County’s Air Quality Department and my official intern title is
Asbestos Unit Intern. What I primarily want to get out of this internship is a
closer look at the inner and outer workings of a government agency. I feel that
having more insight into how government works and actually having a hands on
experience will be an important step in my career development. Secondly, I
would like to make a good impression at this internship, as I know it would be
a very useful reference on a job resume if nothing else. Finally, I would like
to further my knowledge about asbestos and then use that knowledge to spread
awareness. Before accepting this internship, I had a very basic understanding
of what asbestos is and the dangers surrounding the group of minerals. However,
after my first day I already have a much better understanding of asbestos and
what the Air Quality Department is attempting to do in order to minimize its
hazardous effect on humans.
